Ivy Shapiro

Ivy Shapiro has worked in the contemporary art world for over thirty-five years. She brings her expertise to this full-service art advisory specializing in post-war and contemporary art.

Ivy held the position of Senior Director at Art Agency Partners for thirteen years, where she fostered and advised a global roster of clients building museum-worthy collections. In addition to sourcing works, Ivy guided and educated clients through tours of collections both private and public, and traveled to art fairs and exhibitions around the world.

Prior to joining Art Agency Partners, Ivy worked at Gladstone Gallery for ten years as Director and later as Partner. At Gladstone, she oversaw all aspects of the gallery’s operation – from working with artists to sales – and gained a foundational understanding of the art market.

Ivy has also served as an art consultant for feature films, including The Meyerowitz Stories with Noah Baumbach and As Good As It Gets with James L. Brooks, assuring that the films’ representation of art, artists, and the art world were true-to-form and authentic.

In addition to advising, Ivy organizes exhibitions. Most recently, she organized Painting in New York: 1971–83 at Karma Gallery, which was on view in their New York galleries from September 21 to November 5, 2022.

She began her career at Paula Cooper Gallery on Wooster Street while still in high school and later worked at Pace Gallery’s first downtown space on Greene Street.

Ivy attended Oberlin and New York University and holds an M.A. from the Institute of Fine Arts at New York University, where she studied with Linda Nochlin, Kenneth E. Silver, and Kirk Varnedoe.
